Namacunde – The acting provincial governor of Cunene Apolo Ndinoulenga Sunday in Oihole, Cuanhama municipality, Cunene province, called for the greater dissemination of the historical path of King Mandume ya Ndemufayo, to serve as an example for the new generations.
Apolo Ndinoulenga was speaking at the celebration of the 105th anniversary of the death of Mandume ya Ndemufayo, the fearless hero of the resistance to the Portuguese colonial occupation, in the southern region of Angola, which is celebrated on February 6th.
On the occasion, the official challenged historians, anthropologists, archaeologists and linguists to further research the trajectory and achievements of Mandume and the other 17 sovereigns who passed through the Kingdom of Kwanyama (Kwanyama), to awaken national awareness.
He considered that the positive aspects linked to their patriotism should be known, from the perspective of a set of principles that they transmitted to their people, as Mandume sought to restore the social order, wealth and prosperity of the Kingdom.
He recalled that the sovereign managed to expel Portuguese traders from his territory, denouncing the price inflation that they practiced and sought to restore a strong reign, against a decaying system.
In his opinion, to live on the 6th of February is to reflect on a man who never accepted the subjugation of the Europeans, which at the time was expanding across the African continent.
Apolo Ndinoulenga stressed that King Mandume's determination made the project of establishing the colonial administration difficult, imposing harsh defeats on attempts to occupy his territory, which led Europeans to form an alliance to defeat him.
To praise the figure of the king, the Government built, in 2000, in the town of Oihole, 45 kilometers from the city of Ondjiva, a Tourist Complex in his memory.
