Luanda - The holding of the special edition of FENACULT2022, foreseen for the next few days, is a sovereign opportunity to praise the work of Agostinho Neto, said the secretary of State of Tourism, Hélder Marcolino.

The official made this statement Saturday, in Luanda, during a show that marks the opening ceremony of the 2022 festival, entitled “The Trip”, which aimes to honour the historical profile of Agostinho Neto, as a man of culture and politician, in a promotion of the Ministry of Culture, with artistic production of Nova Energia events production company.

The third edition of the National Festival of Culture Special Centenary (FENACULT 2022) is the highlight in the programme of the celebrations of 100 years of birth of the first Angolan President, António Agostinho Neto, marked on 17th of September.

The Special Centenary FENACULT, besides honouring the figure of the country’s “Chief Poet” as he is also dubbed, serves as a mechanism for praise, appreciation and reaffirmation of the Angolan cultural identity, offering creators, especially young people, spaces for participation and exchange of experiences.

The first edition of FENACULT was held in 1989 and the second in 2014.

He recalled that this edition has particular importance, not only for the massive dissemination of the legacy of the man of culture who played a role in the struggle and defence of Angolanness, dedication in favour of the valorisation and development of arts and Culture, but also to bring to public knowledge the value of artistic and cultural production, as well as to create the premises for the exchange between groups and people from different areas and regions.

The secretary of State for Tourism, made it known that the Special Edition of FENACULT programme is very comprehensive and inclusive with activities throughout the country, exhibiting all artistic manifestations and intends to leverage a dynamic cultural movement in which the whole is expressed in a continuous line of performance in different fields of national culture.

He considered it important to massively increase the practice of arts and culture, with the regular holding of festivals and exchanges, associated to a national cultural agenda, aiming at the enjoyment of cultural products by the citizens and thus reinforcing the principle according to which the diversification of the economy as well as the economic and social development of a country must have Culture and Tourism as a starting point.

Hélder Marcolino expressed the wish that the Special Edition of FENACULT, besides being a time for dissemination of the vast cultural heritage, be a space in which potentialities and new cultural talents can be revealed, in the expectation that it will be a reference for other events.

In approximately two hours and with various repertoires, among them poems of Agostinho Neto set to music, different generations of musical performers paid tribute to the sound of rhythms and dances of Angola.

During the show, names from the Angolan music scene were in evidence, with highlight on Dom Caetano, Boto Trindade, Mrs Quim and Gersy Pegado.

Well dressed up from head to toe, the dance group Vindjomba, from the southern province of Huíla, put up a nice performance, as well as the singer Branca Celeste who brought from the east of the country the special movements in the dances of this region.
