Cachiungo - The Dondi Mission, property of the Evangelical Congregational Church in Angola (IECA), became the first religious architecture in Huambo Province to become a national historical and cultural heritage, after its classification last April.
Located in Cachiungo Municipality, 64 kilometers east of Huambo City, the Dondi Mission was registered and classified on April 18, as part of the World Heritage Day celebration.
The information was disclosed Sunday by the director of the culture, tourism, youth and sports office in Huambo Province, Jeremias Piedade Chissanga, on the sidelines of the unveiling ceremony of the identification plaque of the site conducted by the IECA secretary-general, reverend André Cangovi Eurico.
Chissanga said the registration and classification of the site, among many others with the category of religious architecture in the province, is justified by the historical value it represents for the IECA religious community and the country.
Chissanga added that a registration and classification process is in progress for the Chilume Mission (IECA) in Bailundo Municipality, Catholic Mission of Canhe and Cuando in Huambo Municipality, and the Adventist Mission of Bongo, in Longonjo, to become national heritage.
Chissanga said Huambo Province now has seven monuments and sites classified as historical and cultural heritage from the total of 120 existing in the region.
