Dundo - The curator and coordinator of the Iron Palace Installation Committee, Arleth Leandro, Thursday called on scientific and historical researchers to investigate into the origin of the infrastructure that remains a mystery.
The Iron Palace is a historical building in Luanda, which is believed to be designed by Gustave Eiffel, the same that designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, it has one floor and three exhibition rooms.
The building has an original metallic filigree decoration and has a superb balcony, being the best example of the iron architecture in Angola.
During the colonial period, the building enjoyed great prestige and was used as an art center.
After Angola's independence and the subsequent Angolan Civil War, the palace went into ruin and the surrounding area was transformed into a parking lot.
Speaking to Angop about the photographic exhibition that will portray the process of restoration and revitalization of the Iron Palace, reopened in January 2016, the curator considers it essential to know the origin of the palace to transmit to the new generation and future historians.
Arleth Leandro advocates that the Ministry of Culture also do a thorough work so that in the future the Palace will compete for world historical heritage.
"Scientific researchers, historians and the Ministry of Culture must work together to collect specific documents, photographic records and important pieces that help to situate the palace in time, so that the origin is no longer a mystery” the curator said.
In relation to the exhibition, Arleth Leandro said there will be documentary and portrays of the process of restoration and revitalization of the Palace running from December 4 of this year to February 4, 2021.
The aim is to keep the historical memory of the palace alive by telling the story from the date of its emergence in 1890 through the first decade of 2000, when the process of revitalization began, culminating with its reinauguration in 2016.
It will be open to the public and the entrance will be free under strong biosecurity measures, facing the Covid-19 marking the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the National Diamond Company of Angola (ENDIAMA E.P.).
