Luanda- The Ministry of Culture will organise on the 13th and 14th of November, in Luanda, a Forum on the National Intellectual Property System, with a view to safeguarding author's rights and combating piracy, announced this Tuesday the director general of the National Service for Copyright and Related Issues (Senadiac), Barro José Licença.

The event, according to the official, who spoke at a press conference, will analyze the issue in a multisectoral and holistic way, aiming to find appropriate measures to mitigate acts of piracy.

He made it known that, among other objectives, the meeting, which will take place under the motto “the challenges of creation, innovation and protection of intellectual property in Angola”, also aims to stimulate innovation to satisfy the population's needs.

According to the manager, there has been a worrying rate of acts that constitute piracy, resulting from several factors, including the lack of awareness of the need for protection and respect for intellectual property, the motive for which is easy profit, harming economic agents and innovative companies that invest their capital.

He stated that, on the other hand, there is a lack of instruments for harmonizing and articulating policies to encourage research and development activities, to promote interaction between universities, research institutions, as well as to encourage innovation and dissemination of knowledge

In this way, he pointed out, the holding of the Forum as a way to combat piracy, so that protection becomes effective.

Protection means ensuring copyright to the creator or holder of Intellectual Property Rights over the intellectual work and guaranteeing exclusive economic exploitation.
