Moçâmedes – The Higher Education minister, Maria do Rosário Sambo, appealed Wednesday in Moçâmedes to the country's higher education institutions to focus on rigour, efficiency and quality in the training of young people.
Speaking at the inauguration of the rector, vice-rectors and deans of the Namibe University, the minister stressed that education is the core of the country's development, universities on their turn, have a leading role to provide society with citizens with higher skills in different sectors.
"We are in an era in which we need to implement all the mechanism and norms that we have in our sub-system, from the base to higher education, be it science or technology; so we hope that the University of Namibe will be an example of this practice, of making the norms be applied and help us to feel, to know and to get duly substantiated answers, always in the sense of progressive improvement", said the minister.
Maria Sambo pointed out that, from now on, universities have a specific task that includes an evaluation process that starts with self-evaluation, a challenge the new board will have to take up.
The Namibe University was created in the year 2020 and it is composed of four faculties, which encompasses the faculties of Natural Sciences, Fisheries, Social Sciences and Humanities and Engineering and Technology.
