Talatona – At least 1.5 million euros will be used to fund postgraduate courses for Angolan citizens, under an agreement signed Thursday in Luanda.
The commitment was signed between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the French Technical Cooperation Agency, Expertise France and the European Union and aims to support Angolan higher education in the production of knowledge and innovation.
The information was given by the coordinator of the Higher Education Support Programme (UNI.Ao), Miriam Bacchin, at the end of the official opening ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic year.
According to her, the programme will cover 13 specialisation courses in the areas of IT, medicine, food and water quality analysis and control, higher education management, IT systems, health education, mechatronics technology, industrial maintenance and energy efficiency, among others.
She also added that the courses will begin in 2024, with the involvement of more than 300 academics.
Miriam Bacchin said that half of the vacancies will be allocated to women, with a view to encouraging their inclusion in the research sector.
The UNI.AO programme is funded by the European Union with 13 million euros to support the Angolan higher education system in producing knowledge and promoting innovation.
This programme is being implemented by the French Technical Cooperation Agency and Expertise France, with a duration of five years (2019-2024), through the creation of new postgraduate courses, funds for research and training in relevant areas.
