Luanda – TAAG - Angola Airlines began regular freight transport in January this year, from Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), on the Luanda/Lagos/Brazzaville/Luanda route, with a weekly service, ANGOP learned.

According to a press release, sent to ANGOP on Friday, initially this service serves the capitals of Nigeria (Lagos) and Congo (Brazzaville), on Monday, with a Boeing 737-800 cargo aircraft.

In addition to operationalizing the new airport, the objective is to create new commercial dynamics and development of the cargo business segment, according to the document.

“Customers and partners in this market segment now benefit from greater convenience, availability and resources for cargo transportation, speeding up the import and export of goods within the African continent”, the note reads.

According to the document, TAAG recently incorporated the Boeing 737-800BCF freighter into its fleet. This freighter has the capacity to transport up to 24 tons, accommodating up to 10 pallets in a 96 x 125 inch format.

The note highlights that in the month of January this year, from AIAAN, TAAG transported approximately one thousand tons of miscellaneous merchandise between domestic, regional and international destinations.

“The start of regular cargo flights from AIAAN is aligned with the subsector’s vision, for the capitalization of Angola’s new airport infrastructure and consolidation of Luanda as a regional hub, given its geostrategic location”, highlights the press release.

TAAG reiterates its commitment to competitiveness and sustainability, consolidating its strategy of progressively increasing its participation in the African regional air cargo market.

The national flag carrier operates to 12 domestic and 13 international destinations, served by a fleet of 23 aircraft. OPF/AC/DOJ
