Saurimo – Four large ravines in Saurimo, eastern Lunda Sul province, started Sunday being tackled as part of the emergency plan to contain ravines in the country, the Ministry of Construction and Public Works has announced.
Twelve (12) ravines have been identified in Lunda Sul province, which need urgent intervention.
The four ravines being tackled, in a first phase, are those located in the neighbourhoods of Nhama, Candembe, Luavur and Camahundu (Saurimo) and whose works are expected to last between 12 and 14 months.
The works are being funded by the Angolan State, with an amount estimated at 12 to 15 billion kwanzas.
Addressing a contract awarding ceremony, the minister of Public Works and Housing, Carlos Santos, said that the sector had drawn up an emergency programme to contain ravines that remained a motive of concern.
