Luanda – Japanese specialists working in Angola, in the mining sector, will henceforth help the country in improving the geological knowledge of some previously defined regions, following the signing, on Friday, of a Cooperation Protocol.
The document was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO), Canga Xiaquivuila, and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Jiuro Maruhashi, representing the Japan Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC).
Besides this protocol, the Japanese diplomat signed a memorandum of understanding for institutional partnership, having the minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, signed the document in representation of Angola.
With these two instruments, Japan strengths its presence in this sector in Angola, where it´s already present in hydrocarbon activities and other mining resources.
“We signed today two instruments, one ministerial and the other with the Japanese Geological Institute of Minas Gerais, to strengthen cooperation and make JOGMEC work with IGEO, to improve geological knowledge in some previously defined areas and, thus, increase the knowledge of these zones”, described Diamantino Azevedo.
Without advancing the pre-defined areas, the Angolan government official predicts that they will become more attractive, for Japanese companies and other countries that intend to invest in the mining sector in Angola.
Under the memorandum yet to be signed, JOGMEC may also cooperate in the transfer of technology, using the Analysis of Satellite Images and the Geographic Information System, in addition to that information on oil and natural gas may also be exchanged.
The event preceded the “forum” on Investments in the Angolan Petroleum and Mining sectors, presented to the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Angola.
In this forum, business opportunities were presented by the National Oil, Gas and Bio-fuels Agency (ANPG), National Mineral Resources Agency (ANRM), oil company Sonangol, the geological institute IGEO, plus the diamonds companies Endiama-E.P and Sodiam E.P
