Gambos – At least 1.2 million heads of cattle must be vaccinated in the province of Huíla, during the immunization campaign launched yesterday in the municipality of Gambos.
The focus is to prevent diseases such as hematic and symptomatic anthrax, nodular dermatitis and contagious peri-pneumonia, an action that resurfaces after a two-year hiatus due to logistical issues.
Speaking to ANGOP, on the sidelines of the launch of the campaign, the provincial director of Agriculture of Huíla, Pedro Conde, highlighted that 500,000 doses of vaccine, means of transport and technical personnel distributed across the different vaccination sleeves are available.
He detailed that the province spent two years without mass vaccination of cattle, due to a shortage of vaccines in the country and with this return the aim is to halt the spread of some zoonoses that Huíla has registered.
Pedro Conde called on breeders to take their cattle to the various vaccination centers spread across the municipalities.
In turn, the president of the Association of Traditional Gambos Cattle Breeders, António Manuel, highlighted the need to regularize vaccination campaigns, to avoid animal deaths.
“We are very grateful for carrying out this campaign and it will, in a certain way, reduce the constraints that we have experienced during the transhumance period and we hope that in the near future the campaigns will reach the most remote areas, where there are many traditional breeders”, he said.
In 2022, in the campaign that took place in June, 903.194 heads of cattle were vaccinated, corresponding to a coverage of 72%. BP/MS/CF/DOJ
