Luanda - The use of the pass on public transport (buses) on several routes in Angolan capital, Luanda, will become compulsory for all passengers from next December, the CEO of the National Tickets Company (ENBI) Mário Nsingui Pedro has said.
Speaking to the press at the end of a meeting with partners and stakeholders, the head of the ENBI assured said that as of December 1, users who do not have the pass will be able to buy it when they pick up the bus.
According to the CEO, the implementation of the pass removes the need for cash on buses, making the public transport service safer and more extensive, adding that the pass will save 30 percent of the revenue that was previously diverted, and strengthening the operators in financial terms.
Mário Nsingui Pedro warned passengers who share their document with another will have their pass blocked and will have to pay 10,000 kwanzas to unblock it.
Since the system was implemented in October 2023, ENBI has issued 31,8 passes to date.
Of this number, 17,643 passes were issued in Luanda, 7,594 in Benguela, 5,217 in Huila, 322 in Malanje and 302 in Huambo, with the latter two provinces only issuing regular passes (3,379), while the others issued passes for students (20,552 passes) and former combatants (7,080).
With 63,762 passes, TCUL leads the list of total passes issued in Luanda, Angoreal has 29,000, Angoaustral 20,222, Rosalina Express 18,260, Macon 15,478, Cidrália 14,186, Empala 1,740, Stram 1,399 and Cancom 942.
This system carries approximately 15 million passengers, 9 million of whom travel at Luanda’s Catete road. ML/QCB
