Saurimo - The members of the 73rd Assembly of Members of the Sociedade Mineira de Catoca recommended today, Tuesday, in Saurimo (Lunda-Sul), the need to modernize the technological complex in order to contribute to the recovery of ore productivity.
Led by the general director of Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, Benedito Manuel, the assembly recognized that the current archaic complex has led to a downward trend in the productivity of the Treatment Plant, hence the need to pay special attention to the plants modernization plants.
It also recommended continuing to draw up various programs to improve community life and the environment, as part of its social responsibility.
In terms of turnover, in 2023 the company earned 717.6 million dollars from 6.6 carats of diamonds produced, a slight reduction compared to 757 million dollars in 2022, due to the fall in the price of a carat on the international market.
Located in the province of Lunda-Sul, Sociedade Mineira de Catoca has existed for 29 years and is the fourth largest open-pit mine in the world, responsible for more than 75 per cent of the country's diamond production.
It employs over 5,000 people, both direct and indirect. JW/DAN/AMP
