Luanda - The Central bank of Angola (BNA) plans to approve the National Payment System Vision, for the 2023/2028 period, in November this year, with a view to strengthen access to low-value financial services, inclusion of technology and innovation (fintech) and startups.

The information was disclosed Monday in Luanda by the director of the BNA's Payment System department, Cristina Caniço, during the 2nd meeting of the Technical Commission for the Development of Angola's Payment System (CTDSPA).

Cristina Caniço clarified that the National Payment System addresses issues related to innovation and financial inclusion, as well as presenting the creation of more innovations at the level of Angola's payment system laboratory and the Sand Box.

The official added that the document brings more competition and the possibility of making cross-border payments at the level of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in a first phase, and later covering the entire African continent in general.

According to Cristina Caniço, the document will be discussed by the technical strategy and innovation group to be further definitively approved in November this year, if it is completed.

She said that the study on this system has already been completed, although the revision of the rule related to value limits in the payment system is underway, in order to define the limits.

The 2nd meeting of the Technical Commission for the Development of Angola's Payment System was chaired by the BNA´s governor with the participation of organizations linked to the country's financial and non-financial system.
