Lubango – The Annual Meeting of the Legal Subcommittee of the Central Banks of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Countries kicked off Tuesday, in Lubango, southern Huíla province, “behind closed doors”.

The event, which brings together experts from 12 SADC countries, is chaired by the SADC National Director of the Legal Department of the Central Banks, Tânia Alberto.

The SADC Central Bank Governors committee, whose main mission is to work towards the harmonization of procedures and convergence of policies, is a privileged space for consultations by the governors of the central banks regarding monetary stability in the region.

The banks will discuss and exchange experiences ranging from monetary policy to banking supervision, payment systems and financial sector reforms, the organization said in a statement.

The main objective of the event is to promote the sharing of experiences in matters of corporate governance, payment systems and other legal matters of common interest, with a view to harmonizing legislation on financial systems in the sub-Saharan region.

The meeting is organized on a rotating basis, following decisions made by the SADC Committee of Central Bank Governors (CCGB). JT/MS/DAN/AMP
