Family farming leads production in Angola

Luanda – Families contribute 91.5 percent of the total area cultivated in the country's 2022/2023 agricultural season, data has shown.

The data indicates that the 2022/2023 agricultural season involved a total of 1.7 million farming families, of which 1.2 million were supported representing 70.2 percent of rural farming families, with harvests of around 26 million tonnes of different food products.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António Francisco de Assis, at least 3.1 million tonnes of cereals were produced, with Huambo province topping the list with 27.7 percent, Cuanza Sul 23.1%, Bié 14.3%, Benguela 11.2% and Huíla 8.5%.   

  The minister said the Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA) financed 160 projects in Huambo province, while a company of the sector set up a wheat mill.

The 2024 draft State Budget foresees a civil service salary increase of around 5 percent and includes estimated revenues of 24 billion kwanzas and expenditure set at the same amount.

It also estimates a 2.8% growth based on the non-oil sector, which is expected to grow by 4.6%, while the oil sector is expected to decrease 2.6%.
