Luanda - The National Development Plan, to be approved in a few days, places major emphasis on swimming, informed Saturday in Luanda Province, the minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão.

Speaking at the opening of the Congress of the African Swimming Confederation (CANA), the minister announced the rigorous training of coaches, in order to significantly increase the number of potential athletes, and also greater investment in new infrastructures, some of which are already under construction, as part of the plan.

Rui Falcão said that the aim is to promote this sport and make the base of the pyramid gain another proportion, believing that in the coming years swimming will take a major leap forward, revealing that the plan is being discussed by institutions such as the Angolan Olympic and Paralympic Committee, pointing out that in a few days it will be publicly debated with sports players, including journalists.

As for the African Championships, which end on Sunday, he praised the exemplary way in which the event was prepared, given that it is taking place in Angola for the first time.

In terms of sporting results, he said that the country has been working for that, stressing that it is good to have won a silver medal, although he considers it important to continue pushing through towards new levels.

Rui Falcão believes that the best results will come gradually when there is a broad base of practitioners, adding that the only way to prepare athletes is to train them.
