Luanda – Journalist Amândio Clemente passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, in a hospital in Luanda, victim of illness.

The information was confirmed to ANGOP by the director of Jornal dos Desportos (sports newspaper), Honorato Silva, adding that the professional, already retired since 2023, held several positions, notably Sub-editor and Sports Editor of Jornal de Angola.

Regarding the causes of death, he reported that Amândio Clemente felt unwell on Monday and went to the hospital, ending up passing away this morning (19).

Born on March 23, 1960, in Cassoneca, Municipality of Icolo and Bengo, in Luanda, Amândio Clemente began working at Jornal de Angola in 1993, in the sports section.

He was co-founder of Jornal dos Desportos, on January 31, 1994, alongside professionals such as Policarpo da Rosa, Fernando Cunha, Pires Ferreira, António Felix, Fontes Pereira, Matias Adriano, António Júnior, among others.

He participated in several national and international coverages, with emphasis on the African Nations Football Championships and the World Championships, played in South Africa in 2010 and Russia in 2018.

Until his death Amândio Clemente was Sports Editor of the private newspaper Novo Jornal.
