Lubango – The Angolan international referee Jerson Emiliano will take part in the 2023 awards gala of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA), to be held on Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa, after being nominated in the “Referee of the Year” category.
The event pays tribute to the best performances both inside and outside the field during the year 2023, including players, coaches, referees among other staff part of the southern region games.
It is the first appointment of its kind for the Angolan referee, who hails from Huíla province and has already travelled.
The awards were open to all players and coaches of the 14 associations of COSAFA member countries, regardless of their workplace worldwide.
The award category both female and male are Player of the year, Goal keeper of the year, Most promising player of the year (aged 20 or under), Coach of the year and Referee of the year.
The male and female award categories are Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Most Promising Player of the Year (aged 20 or under), Coach of the Year and Referee of the Year.
During the ceremony, prizes will also be awarded for “Lifetime Achievement” to all those who have dedicated themselves to football in the region over several decades.
COSAFA's member associations include Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
