Federation announces pause in championship due to AFCON

Luanda – The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) has announced a pause in the first division National Football Championship (Girabola2023/24), during the period that the National Team will be participating in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to happen from 13 January to 11 February 2024, in Côte d'Ivoire.

According to a communiqué released by FAF, the resumption of the championship will dependo n the performance of the National Team in the AFCON, but it might re-start between 26 January and 02 February.

Girabola2023/24 is currently being led by Kabuscorp do Palanca with 21 points, followed by Sagrada Esperança (16) and Desportivo da Lunda Sul (16).

Meanwhile, in the AFCON Angola are in Group D with Algeria, Mauritania and Burkina Faso.

The Angolan squad’s first game is scheduled for 15 January, with Algeria, at 09.00 in the evening. JAD/VAB/jmc
