Luanda - The mixed duo of Angolan sailors, Matias Motinho and Manuela Paula, are to compete in the 470 Class Sailing World Championships to be held from February 24 to March 3 in Palma, Mallorca, Spain.
This is Angola’s third appearance at the World Championships in this class, after 2013 in France and 2014 in Spain.
The event, which involves 10 regattas, will feature 63 national teams from various countries, including defending champions Japan, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Croatia, Ecuador, Spain and Mozambique.
The Championship is a qualifier for this year's Olympic Games in Paris, France, and in the case of Africa, it should lead to the continent's first-place team in the competition. So far, only Angola and Mozambique have registered for the event. JAD/VAB/TED/AMP
