Luanda - Former Interclube footballer, Arsénio Ribeiro ''Tubia'', defended on Monday night, in Luanda, the need for the National Team's midfield to be faster in the transition and serve the advanced sector more efficiently.
Speaking to ANGOP, at the end of the game in which Angola drew (1-1) against the similar Algeria, in the opening of Group D of CAN'2023, which takes place in Côte d'Ivoire, he said that the system (3x5x2) used by coach Pedro Gonçalves, allows greater speed in the intermediate zone to support the attack.
“But what can be seen throughout the challenge, the players were quite nervous, which made it difficult to perform well many times during the game’’ – he highlighted.
Tubia, who has also played for the Angola national team, recognizes that the Algerians performed well physically and technically on the field, with the aim of creating instability for the Angolan team.
He indicated that after the changes made, especially with the entry of Mabululo in the initial stage, and others in the second round, Angola's game had a different dynamic which forced the opponent to lower their levels
The former Angolan National Team striker (1994 and 2000) said that it is important in the next matches that there is greater moving of the ball from defense to attack. ‘‘The team is defending well, but it is necessary to attack more to reach the goal’’ – he highlighted.
In the second round scheduled for Saturday (6 pm), in Yamussucro, Angola will face Mauritania, who plays today against Burkina Faso, to conclude the opening round of Group D.
The CAN, remember, was scheduled for 2023, but due to the intense period of rain in Côte d’Ivoire, the African Football Confederation (CAF) transferred it to this year.
Angola participates in the competition for the 9th time, having made its debut in 1996, in South Africa.BSV/FN/CF/DOJ
