Angola to host 2024 Davis Cup Africa Zone Group IV

Luanda - The Angolan Tennis Federation (FAT) announced Tuesday in Luanda Province that the Davis Cup Africa Group IV 2024 edition, which is scheduled to happen from 17 to 22 June this year, will be held in the country's capital city, on the courts of the Academia do Kikuxi Villas Club, in the municipality of Viana, with the participation of eight countries.

The press release ANGOP has had access to, states that FAT has been chosen by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to host the competition for the first time, with players from Angola, Algeria, Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Senegal.

In the Angolan capital, these countries will be competing for two places in the 3rd Division (Africa Group III).

The Federation’s statement adds that the holding of the event in Angola is a significant milestone for the sport in Angola as it expresses the nation's growing prominence on the international sporting scene.

The document states that FAT is committed to ensuring an exciting and memorable Davis Cup experience for all participants, such as the players, the public, the media and sponsors.

“We thank the ITF for their confidence in our ability to host this important event and we look forward to welcoming all the participating countries”, reads the document.

Angola made its debut at this event in 2001 and its best record to date was at the 2003 edition, where it came seventh. The country's last participation was in 2021, in Brazzaville, Congo.

The Cup is a world tennis championship that brings together the main national men's teams and sees the participation of all the ITF member countries, totalling 180.

The event is divided as follows:

1. World Group, made up of the 16 countries with the best results.

 

2. 1st Division, made up of the American, European and Asian zones.

 

3. 2nd Division, made up of the American, Euro-African and Asia/Oceania zones.

 

4. 3rd, 4th and 5th Division, made up of African countries including Angola.
