Banca return to senior handball competition after 12 years

Luanda - The Grupo Desportivo da Banca senior men's handball team have returned to the provincial handball championship after quitting the competition in 2008 due to financial issues, ANGOP learnt on Thursday from a source of the club.

The Maianga-based team will be the biggest surprise in the Luanda provincial handball championship to kick off February 27.

Alexandre Machado, the team's coach, will lead a squad which include junior players, from Marinha de Guerra, Petro de Luanda, Exército and Sporting de Luanda.

Despite the extinction of the main team, the club have kept the training of young players.

The Banca team have already won two National Championships in 1994 and 2002 and has a history in training young players.

Besides the Luanda Provincial Championship, Banca will play the Angola Cup and the National Championship.
