First women’s world handball cup with 32 teams kicks off in Spain

Luanda - For the first time in the history of the competition 32 national teams including Angola are competing since Wednesday in the world senior women's handball tournament taking place in Spain with eight more participants than in previous editions.

Angola, which is already in its 16th participation, face France on Friday, Montenegro on December 5 and Slovenia two days later.

Angola finished 15th in 2019 in Japan, in Spain the team aim to reach the 12th place. The best classification of the Angolan team is the seventh place achieved in 2007, in France.

It is the first time Spain hosts the competition, which is being disputed by eight groups of four teams each. The top three teams progress to the next phase, while the last three will compete for the 25th to 32nd places.

The first edition of the senior women's world handball championship was held in 1957, in Yugoslavia, won by the then Czechoslovakia, Russia with four titles is the most crowned national team.
