Bié government launched Wednesday the project Educate to Recycle (PEDUR), which aims to raise awareness of students to value and recycle objects at the end of their useful life.
The activity marked World Environment Day in this central/southern region of the country, which was marked on June 5 under the motto Together for Restoration - Angola at the Forefront of Conservation.
The provincial director of the Environment, Waste Management and Community Services, Josefina Massoxi Ganjo, said PEDUR is a preventative measure to alert the people of the school communities to work towards a healthy and sustainable environment, highlighting the problems linked to the improper disposal and treatment of waste.
The idea, she said, is to improve environmental hygiene, involving everyone in good environmental practices, with a focus on reusing and valorizing waste, particularly in Bié province.
Josefina Massoxi said that PEDUR's objectives are to promote communication, mobilization and awareness-raising activities in schools on proper waste management, and to bring academic population to good hygiene and sanitation practices.PLB/TED/AMP
