Luanda - Angola hosts on August 31 the Regional Conference on Climate Change of the PAN-AFRICAN WOMEN'S ORGANIZATION (PAWO), in an initiative of the Regional Secretariat for Southern Africa.

The event that will take place under the theme "The resilience of African women: The contribution to the agriculture sector for adapting to climate change", was announced Thursday during a press conference by the organisation's secretary for Southern Africa.

She said that the holding of the meeting is part of the celebrations of the African Women's Day, marked on the 31st of July, which honors the women of the continent and recognizes the ancestors of Africa who courageously fought for the Continent's freedom and development.

She explained that its objectives are to promote a discussion on business opportunities in agriculture, in the African Union's green recovery plan, at the level of the Southern region, as a route to face climate change, as well as a resilient measure that represents the successful implementation of women's empowerment priorities in the agricultural sector.

The presentation of the five priorities of the Green Recovery Action Plan, so that Africa can adopt them in favor of its growth, educating the participants about the principles and strategies of the plan, including its purposes and key components, are other objectives of the meeting.

It also aims to train women in the management of natural resources in terms of their ability to be resilient to shocks and crises, with a view to improving their management for conservation and economic development.

He added that the conference will have as participants, besides Angola, representatives of South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

The PAWO was created with the aim of discussing the role of women in the reconstruction of Africa, in the fight against the spread of AIDS and illiteracy, as well as in the promotion of peace and democracy. SJ/ART/CF/NIC
