Mungo - Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries António Francisco de Assis said Monday that the potential of Arabica coffee production in the municipality of Mungo, central Huambo province, could quickly boost the local economy.
Speaking at the end of a meeting with coffee producers in the municipality, the minister said despite still being a traditional production, it is very fruitful and significant, which shows the potential of Mungo's soil and the efforts of local farmers to revive Arabica coffee.
He said that this is a challenge imposed two years ago to the farmers of Mungo, with the distribution of 60,000 seedlings, having produced, so far, more than two tons.
António Francisco de Assis announced plans for the launch of large seedbed for the production of Arabica coffee seedlings.
The objective is to integrating more families in the whole production process, focusing on the development of the local economy.
The official added that the idea was to transform the municipality of Mungo into a pioneer in large-scale coffee production in Huambo province.
