Cuito - The governor of the province of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, defended today, in the city of Cuito, the need to increase agricultural production, with a view to improving the quality of life of the population and the socioeconomic development of the region.

The government official expressed this need when delivering a 66 million liter water retention basin to the agricultural cooperative in the village of Chimboto “Ulinga Upangue”, in the commune of Cunje.

On the occasion, Pereira Alfredo highlighted the importance of agriculture for food subsistence, highlighting that the increase in agricultural production will allow the creation of income within families and thus change their standard of living.

At the level of the province of Bié, more than seven hundred thousand hectares of land were prepared for the 2023/2024 agricultural year, with the forecast of harvesting one million and eight hundred thousand tons of various products.

This province in the center/south of the country produces an average of one million 232 thousand and 630 tons of products per season, with emphasis on corn, reindeer potatoes, wheat and various vegetables.

Regarding the basin, the governor stressed that it will enable the practice of cultivation during the cacimbo period, as well as watering some animals that surround the village.

He guaranteed that gender projects will be launched in all municipalities in the interior of the province, in order to increasingly combat poverty rates within the family.

The act also served to deliver around four tons of agricultural inputs to the same cooperative, consisting of seeds and various fertilizers, as well as production instruments.

Meanwhile, the president of the aforementioned cooperative, Maurício Guerra, praised the initiative, as it will help with the irrigation of various crops produced in this region.

Even today, the governor delivered a service station for youth employment, with the capacity to wash six vehicles simultaneously. It created 36 jobs.AS/PLB/DOJ
