Nigerian police spokesman Muhammed Shehu, quoted by Efe, said the attack took place on Friday, with a large number of armed men entering the area, abducting at least 60 people.
Without giving details about the attack, the same source said that an operation was underway to rescue the kidnap victims.
In recent months, Nigeria has seen a number of kidnappings, particularly in the northern region, which has raised concerns about the capabilities of security forces in Africa’s most populous country.
The majority of kidnappers in northern Nigeria are believed to be former shepherds looking for money through ransoms.
Moving on motorcycles in large groups, they operate in the forests, thus making it difficult for security forces to locate them.
In recent days there have been reports of the kidnapping of nine students from an Islamic school in the northwestern state of Katsina and a mass abduction at a school in a neighboring state.
According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), at least 950 students were abducted between December and July in Nigeria.
